Join the next generation of young professionals and philanthropists in supporting GLIDE's storied legacy of love, leadership and community at the 3rd annual GLIDE Legacy Gala - A Love Supreme at the San Francisco's Regency Ballroom on Saturday, July 28. Sponsored by the GLIDE Legacy Committee, the annual black-tie affair is an evening of music, dance and celebration that recognizes the important work of up and coming change agents who are dedicated to improving the lives of others. The evening's entertainment will include the GLIDE Ensemble and Change Band along with DJ KingMost; and this year's honorees include San Francisco 49er Vernon Davis and award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
"I am thrilled to be honored by GLIDE for my achievements and talents to help young people around the world overcome obstacles in order to reach their full potential," said Vernon Davis. "A special thank you to GLIDE for the generous Janice Mirikitani Award. I am honored to share their vision for a just and equitable world for our next generation of community leaders. Together we can transform our communities for the betterment of all." said Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
Along with the evening's festivities, the GLIDE Legacy Committee - a group of young social entrepreneurs - will recognize the outstanding contributions of two architects of change who embody the passion and spirit of GLIDE's Co-Founders, Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani. Their vision and work speak to the hearts and minds of young people across the globe to lead a life that empowers others to seek their greatest potential.
The Cecil Williams Legacy Award will be presented to San Francisco 49er tight-end Vernon Davis for his unyielding dedication to helping underserved youth and families achieve better lives through art, education and health. His work both on and off the field serves as an inspiration for the next generation.
The Janice Mirikitani Legacy Award will be presented to award-winning filmmaker and activist Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Through her films and foundation, Jennifer has empowered young girls and women to avoid the pitfalls and obstacles in our society in order to achieve true success.

GLIDE Legacy Committee About the GLIDE Legacy Committee
The GLIDE Legacy Committee is a radically inclusive team comprised of social entrepreneurs who strive to engage, inspire and educate new audiences of young professionals within the San Francisco Bay Area through GLIDE's mission of unconditional love, compassion and social justice to broaden and deepen community involvement with the organization.
About Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani:
In 1963, Reverend Cecil Williams revolutionized the then Conservative GLIDE Memorial United Methodist Church by encouraging policies and practices that focused on accepting people from all walks of life in order to create positive change in the community. Over the last 43 years, Williams and his wife Janice Mirikitani, the Founding President of GLIDE, have achieved worldwide recognition for their groundbreaking work toward empowering the city's poor and marginalized communities to make meaningful changes in their lives and break the cycle of poverty and dependence. Mirikitani is San Francisco's second Poet Laureate, appointed in 2000. She has authored four books of poetry and the editor of nine landmark anthologies, which provide platforms for writers of color, women, youth and children.
